Volunteer Testimonials

Chicago Canine Rescue is a true gem. Not only do they go above and beyond to make sure they match their dogs with forever families. They also make sure to give each dog the individual care and attention they deserve. I love volunteering at the shelter. My time walking the dogs is the highlight of my day. I feel the love from the dogs as they are so happy to get out and stretch their legs. CCR shares with me tips and tricks to help the dogs grow behaviorally so they can thrive in their forever homes. I'm proud to be a part of the volunteer team at Chicago Canine Rescue. 10/10 highly recommend.

Volunteering at Chicago Canine Rescue has become a passion of mine over the last 6 years for so many reasons. It has improved drastically with the addition of new staff about a year and a half ago. From the office to the kennel staff they are tireless in their dedication and love for their dogs. It starts with the dogs they choose to add to their no kill shelter. They are all amazing…some have special needs, some are harder than others, some have been there a long time, some have come in and been adopted right away. They are trusting of their experienced, long time volunteers which helps us build bonds with the dogs and give them love and enrichment away from the stressful shelter life. I am lucky to be able to take 3 female dogs I love regularly for walks, runs, car rides, yard play, and inside the house visits. They are: Xena She is a beautiful, strong, smart girl. She is loyal and will be protective of whoever is lucky enough to have her. Chloe: She has a special place in my heart. She is gentle, and so loving. She loves to play ball and loves to be in the house where she’s excellent. Mornay: She is a charmer…a beautiful, athletic, smart, and observant dog. She likes nothing more than riding in the car, checking everything out. She loves to bury bones in the backyard, and the next time she comes she finds them right away. Chicago Canine Rescue deserves all of the support we can give them. From monetary donations, to volunteers, to fosters. It is a neighborhood shelter and feels homey and welcoming and for that we have Abby, Nicole, Katelyn, Maia, Jordan, Cece, Laura, Maysun, and Violet to thank (if I’ve missed anyone, please forgive me).

I love volunteering at Chicago Canine Rescue. I knew I'd enjoy walking the dogs, but I was surprised by how much I like working in the shelter, too. The people who work there are incredibly devoted and it feels great to lighten their load a bit. The best feeling though, is when one of "my" dogs finds their forever home. I feel like I'm making a difference by volunteering at CCR. I'm helping these dogs be happier and healthier while they wait for their new family to find them.

Adopter Testimonials

My husband and I have had truly great experiences adopting our two pups from Chicago Canine Rescue. Everyone on staff is very caring and thoughtful about the dogs they serve, and when it came to my million plus questions, also proved to be very patient and kind. And I have experienced firsthand what their motto “Leave No Dog Behind” means to them with our latest addition, Cheech. Cheech was taken in by CCR and found to have cancer not long after. Rescues don’t always have the funds or access to care to treat such dogs, but CCR made it a personal mission to ensure if Cheech could survive this diagnosis, he would. One amputation surgery later (sourced and funded through donations raised by the rescue), he’s one happy and healthy pup living his best life in our home, and for that, we can never thank them enough!

I can’t thank Chicago Canine Rescue enough for connecting me with my beautiful girl, Grace Kelly. It was through an instagram story that I learned Grace was in need of a new foster home soon, and I felt ready to foster again. This was my first time doing so through CCR, and the level of care and thoughtfulness of the staff surpassed what had been my past experience somewhere else. Amber at CCR, along with the foster mom who arranged her hand off to me, were both so kind, compassionate, and detail oriented. Both Amber and Grace’s previous foster family checked in on us regularly throughout the foster period, were excited for updates and photos, and offered support and so much encouragement. I could tell that Grace was truly loved and that CCR and those connected to this organization truly care about their mission. It was a no brainer to make Grace a part of our household officially, She’s made our house a home. It was meant to be! Thanks CCR!

Chicago Canine Rescue was our first choice to extend our family. My partner & I heard nothing but phenomenal praise about the facility & we both witnessed this firsthand. We had decided on fostering-to-adopt Apple Cider (now named Milow) after following her plight described on social media in September, 2023. Having been abandoned in Chicago’s Old Town Neighborhood with her puppies taken away from her soon after delivery, CCR gave Apple Cider the best love, care, and support a creature in that state could receive. We were amazed at the interest and concern each staff member had on the well-being of each dog in their care. Equally important, the staff was readily available to answer any and every question we as first time Dog Dads had. To this day, we still update CCR staff as to Apple’s new life with such happy and interested responses. Like many of us, Apple needed a second chance at the best life possible. Thank you CCR for letting us be Apple Cider’s forever family!

Foster Testimonials

My journey with Chicago Canine Rescue has been an incredibly rewarding one, having adopted two dogs and fostered nine throughout the years. The benefits I've received from this experience are immeasurable. My personal favorite is the opportunity to interact with a diverse range of dogs, each with their unique personalities and traits. From the larger-than-life personality of a Chihuahua to the spirited demeanor of a Yorkie, I've had the pleasure of understanding and appreciating each dog's uniqueness. Chicago Canine Rescue has made the fostering process simple and straightforward, providing all necessary supplies, medical care, and guidance on behavior and training. Seeing a dog transition from a state of uncertainty to feeling safe and comfortable is a heartwarming experience that I cherish deeply. I remember Chloe, my longest foster dog who was with me for 11 months. The joy she brings to her forever family, who are nothing short of angels to her, is a sight to behold. The "letting go" process can be challenging, but seeing them thrive in their new homes and knowing you've played a part in their happiness is worth every moment.

We have had the pleasure of fostering 4 dogs this year with CCR and have no intention of stopping! CCR is an incredible organization that is very accommodating of our forever dog and makes sure that each placement is a great fit. We love the staff and our experienced has been incredibly rewarding.

We decided to volunteer as fosters because we know how stressful life can be for dogs who are in search of their forever home. We've fostered multiple dogs ranging in age from 6 weeks to 4 years. Each dog is unique with so much love to give. Our goal is to help as many pups feel loved and comforted during their journey with CCR.
