Trainer
Janice has worked with Chicago Canine Rescue in almost every capacity since 2001 and through to the present day: volunteer, foster, adopter, behavior and training consultant, board member, Vice President, President, and Strategic Advisor.
While training her own dog and amidst her legal career, Janice began to find ways to spend more time working her passion: dogs. That passion led her to teach dog training classes and get involved in the shelter and rescue world where she made her way to CCR as it began to take shape making its impact on the local animal welfare community.
Janice ultimately left the practice of law and focused full-time on her preferred profession. She began working as a dog behavior and training consultant through her start-up Dog Behavior Solutions, Inc. Janice solves the behavior and training issues that present themselves to pet parents of all stripes – adopters, fosters, rescues and shelters.
In addition to her work with CCR and her own business, Janice has been the director of behavior and training for Safe Humane Chicago, an organization committed to solving issues of community violence by cultivating relationships between dogs and humans.
After many years as a Chicagoan, Janice moved a few suburbs to the North with her husband and dogs, where in her “spare time” she trains and competes with her own dogs in a variety of sports.

Trainer
Rachel is a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA). Since 2013, she has been an enthusiastic part of the Dog Behavior Solutions team for whom she teaches classes and conducts private sessions. She is a skillful and accomplished problem solver and has experience working with all ages and breeds of dog who demonstrate a variety of behavioral issues. She provides assessments, training, and behavior services to many different local rescues as well as to fosters and adopters who have acquired their dogs from all different circumstances.

After formal training in New York, she has coordinated playgroups with Chicago Canine Rescue and Chicago Animal Care and Control – deepening her understanding of intra-specific relations.

Owner Surrenders

Chicago Canine Rescue is a non-municipal entity and is not able to accept stray animals. If you encounter a stray dog, please consider utilizing the resources available on Lost Dogs Illinois website, specifically their page 5 things to do if you’ve found a dog. We strongly encourage you to create a found pet listing with Lost Dogs IL, and hang fliers around the area the animal was found. If you are unable to house a found stray in your home while attempting to locate the owner, stray animals must be taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control – 2741 S. Western Ave.

Chicago Canine Rescue accepts owner surrender on a case by case basis, when space and resources are available, and pending a medical and behavioral evaluation. ** At this time CCR is only able to take small dogs up to 25 lbs. We take owner surrenders by appointment only, and we request a $100 donation towards their care. Owners surrendering their pet should be prepared to provide proof of ownership and a photo ID at the time of evaluation. At this time we cannot accept any dogs that have a bite history or aggression. Please contact Rachel with a photo, behavior and medical history of your dog at rachel@chicagocaninerescue.org and copy abby@chicagocaninerescue.org , or call us at 773-697-8848 to schedule an evaluation. Please note that you must schedule an appointment and cannot arrive to our facility without approval.
If you are unable to care for your dog due to the cost of routine medical care, please view our low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination resources as well as the Community Pet Coalition’s events.
If you are considering relinquishing your dog due to behavioral issues, please call Anti-Cruelty Society’s Behavior Helpline at (312)644-8338.
After reviewing your options, if you still wish to surrender your dog and we are not able to take them, please visit the Anti-Cruelty Society’s website.
